In response to the global pandemic surrounding COVID-19 (known as Wuhan pneumonia in Taiwan), most countries around the world have closed their borders to foreign tourists. Taiwan's exemplary response to this health emergency has allowed society to remain functional and actually achieve economic growth during this difficult period.
Other countries such as Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand have also handled the pandemic well, and have explored the possibility of creating 'travel bubbles' between low-risk areas.
While Singapore previously tried to create a travel bubble with Hong Kong, unfortunately the sudden increase of community-spread cases forced the cancellation of this plan, leaving many with plans to travel abroad disappointed. Currently, an option to travel between Singapore and Taiwan for leisure is being investigated.
